I’m a huge hater of these re-recordings that she’s doing in general. ![]() now, a label boss might say: we funded the record, we connected you with the producers, bands, studios, writers, etc we own the record, you can have the song (ie publishing). from the artist pov, it makes less sense, as highlighted in this situation - it prevents the primary recording artist from ever “owning” their work. ![]() it’s legal, and it’s a standard way to make contracts in the modern record business. Is that morally “right”? depends on how you approach the question. this is especially common at major labels. the core of the issue comes down to the fact that many record deals explicitly do not provide artists with a path to own the master recordings of their work.
